Cthulhu Saves The World – First Look

Since Breath of Death VII, most probably the best selling XBLIG RPG, the guys from Zeboyd Games gathered quite the fan audience. These days you don´t often get the chance to play a game in the JRPG style that was so popular on the 16 bit consoles. So when I finally got my hands on the first playtest version of “Cthulhu Saves The World” I had high hopes and expectations. Now after having spent over an hour with Cthulhu I got a pretty good impression of the new title – it´s gorgeous!

Looking at Galactic Ranger (working title)

Each time I see another Space Shooter coming to the XBLIG channel I get excited about it. Or at least I do if it is looking as good as Solar Struggle or Spatial Rift (which I both mentioned last week in the Indie Invasion #1). But the game from Jason Deacon that he is producing for the Xbox Live Indie Games looks like it might become my favorite. Why? Because it adds a lot of rpg elements into the mix and rpgs are my favorite genre.

Here is one screenshot to get you interested, the rest comes after the break.

Inferno is right around the corner

JoyJoy
and Crossfire from Radiangames belong to the most polished and best rated games on the Xbox Live Indie Games channel. And when Radiangames makes a new game my eyes get wide and maybe I start drooling a little bit. So when Luke, the guy that made these games, allowed me to write a bit about the upcoming “Inferno” it made me quite happy.

I will keep this short – because you can expect a full videoreview from me soon after the release on the marketplace. Shouldn´t be too long. But I love this game and want to give you at least a “tiny little bit” of information what Inferno is about (and 4 screenshots … to give you an idea what it looks like).

  • It´s a twinstick shooter like you have never played before -
because this time you have levels you can explore.
  • You can play locally with 1-4 players.
  • You get to pimp your weapon by buying upgrades for it – as well as other “stuff”.
  • There will be lots of different types of enemies and they are all fun to get rid off.
  • Once you finished the game there will be a special mode.
  • There will be bosses.
  • It´s my favorite Radiangames title so far!

Now while you are waiting for “Radiangames Inferno” check out the other two games if you don´t know them. They have a 4+ stars rating for a very good reason! Because they are not just worth playing, they are awesome! JoyJoy costs a dollar (80 MSP) and Crossfire costs three (240 MSP).

For Crossfire I already made a videoreview in the past – check it out here.

Hands On Magnetic Wars

Do you get this feeling of Deja Vú when you put your hands on a twinstick shooter? I do and it´s not that easy to convince me to try one out.

When I posted the trailer of Magnetic Wars a little bit earlier today I wrote that this is a bit different with this game. And the guys from Guma Productions gave me a thumbs up on a little early Hands On with it. I wouldn´t be writing this if I didn´t like what I saw – but I must admit I never expected a game this good.

Read my first impressions of the game after I played it through on easy.

Hands On Snailien Invasion

The guys from Manly Games were so nice to allow me to write about my first impressions of Snailien Invasion. I played it for about an hour, first alone and then in local co-op and deathmatch.

Snailien Invasion is a pure multiplayer game – you can play solo, but this is definitely not what the game was made for. I admit I was bit disappointed, because after the trailer I did expect a neat platformer with coop modes. Instead I got more or less Unreal Tournament with Snailiens.

But frustration pretty fast turned into amazement. With Snailien Invasion there is another hot top notch title soon available on the marketplace. Polished to the amount that it could have been an XBLA title and would still look good! Here my first impressions of the game.

First Look #1 – Dead Shift

There are already a lot of zombie games out there – but this is something special. And it looks just gorgeous for an indie title – if this is the future of indie games, then I can´t wait for tomorrow!

Definately worth a “First Look”.
