When you are a small Indie developer creating only a few games per year for the Xbox Live Indie Games channel the number of sales you get from one game can have quite an impact on the future of your company. So if the platform you release your game to adds obstacles to the already tough job of selling your game it´s really a problem. Nathan Fouts from Mommy´s Best Games is the head behind some of the coolest indie games available on the XBLIG channel and today his new game “Explosionade” was supposed to be released into the peer review, the final stage of any indie game to be published to the marketplace.
The game is ready and still he decided to wait – he allowed us to bring the reasons for his decision to indienerds and it´s a very interesting read for those curious to learn a bit of the struggles of an indie dev on the Xbox. To read Nathan´s insightful article on the broken top downloads list hit the MORE button.
The new Mommy´s Best Games title Explosionade is nearing and today a trailer was released for it. Have a look at the nice shooting action that the trailer promises. They already have shown their nack for shooters with Weapon of Choice, so make sure to check Explosionade out once it hits the marketplace.
Mommy´s Best Games released couple of screenshots and details for their upcoming title “Explosionade”. With any luck the game might hit the Xbox Live Indie Games channel by the end of the month – that´s fantastic, because I haven´t played a mech in a while and the game certainly looks promising.
There is even a bit of story …
All your friends are storming the Horronym Fortress but Colonel Bouche left you to guard the supply depot.
Disregarding orders you open the depot to find a gigantic, prototype mech!
… sounds good to me. Just the quadro pod mech I would love to find while all my friends are out playing.

I´ve been waiting for Grapple Buggy for a while now, but since Mommy´s Best Games is trying to find a publisher to bring it to XBLA I might have to wait a bit longer. Luckily they decided to bring another game in the meantime and today it got a name on their development blog: “Explosionade” and my guess is it might be obsessed with explosions and grenades. Why? No idea – just a totally random guess. Maybe influenced just a tiny little bit by the name, the first image from the game…
and the rest of the blog entry which even throws in some grenade throwing programm code. On the more interesting side theres also this little bit:
The player mech on the left anticipates a grenade hit from the enemy Horronyms on the right. Horronyms conveniently have three arms, two for holding their gun, one for throwing grenades, natch.
So we get to play a mech and take care of little creatures that have gotten a small evolutionary advantage … or not, because extra extremeties seem of little use when you are about to get your ass kicked by some mech dude twice your size.
Anyway – I loved the first two MBG titles “Shoot 1Up” and “Weapon of Choice“, so this is a very welcome news. Especially since Grapple Buggy´s release is still “TBA”. Wait – there is no release infos in there eiter. Damn it!
Shoot 1Up is a great shooter that brings new gameplay elements to the Shot´em Up genre. Instead of just playing with one ship, you play with an armada of them. But that is not the only thing new in Shoot 1Up – enjoy the review.
