Okay, maybe they don´t exactly rule Steam – but compared to how their games did on XBLIG the good fellows at Zeboyd must at least feel like they rule supreme.
I don´t want to tell you again about CSTW or its predeccessor BoD VII – both games are worth much more than what Zeboyd is asking for on Steam or XBLIG.
What I do want is compare how well the title did on Steam and XBLIG. Developers are complaining about Microsoft more or less ignoring the channel – there simply seems to be nobody at Microsoft that sorts out the pearls in all the rubbish (yes – I´m talking about massage titles and guides for little kids on how to have free sex *didn´t work by the way!*). Steam does – they don´t allow every rubbish title, they select the games that developers actually spend love and time on.
Microsoft wake up!!! You created XNA and now you let others reap the fruits of your labour. Promising XNA devs flee the platform, others are at least planing to release on other platforms as well and those with a hit in the pipeline might switch sides as soon as they get their quartly sales figures.
Almost two month ago I wrote Privates will be coming to Xbox Live Indie Games – back then I already had doubts that the contents of the game might be problematic due to the nature of the Xbox Live Indie Games peer review. Games of a sexual nature are not allowed to pass and I was really hoping that with all the educational content in Privates (not a joke by the way) they would make it an exemption. The latest press release from Zombie Cow Studios sadly states otherwise:
“The guys at Xbox have been amazing,” said Dan Marshall of Zombie Cow Studios. “They’ve been really supportive and helpful throughout, but ultimately have advised that the game wouldn’t pass the Indie Games Peer Review process, purely due to its inherently sexual nature. As a result, if you want to play as a tiny little man blasting away inside someone’s innards, the only place to do it is privatesgame.com”
That´s really a shame, Privates will stay PC only. And when I tried it out it didn´t support the Xbox360 gamepad, so I´ll be waiting for a patch to at least give me some console feeling. If it ever comes out, so far there are no definate plans – Zombie Cow Studios is still pondering over the issue.
